Board of Directors
Jerold Franks, known to his friends as Jerry, serves on the Board of Directors of The Harlem Angels as General Consigliere. He is an independent casting director, lecturer, educator and actors’ advocate, and a former president of the Casting Society of America.
His casting credits include “Lost,” “Fame,” “Baghdad Café” and “Alice in Wonderland.” He served as Executive in Charge of Talent and Casting for 20th Century Fox Television, as Director of Talent and Casting for Columbia Pictures Television, and as Artistic Director at the Long Beach Civic Light Opera. His first solo casting assignment was the Emmy Award-winning series “Barney Miller.”
With his partner Al Onorato he was nominated three times for an Emmy for casting, and in 1989 he received the ARTIOS Award, the Casting Society of America’s highest honor, for “Baghdad Café.” He was honored with Awards of Excellence by the Southern California Motion Picture Council in 1995, 1997 and 2000, and received the 1999 Award of Excellence from the California Governor’s Committee for his work on “Kids Like These.” He went on to establish Jerold Franks Productions.
He holds a master’s degree in psychology, guidance and counseling from California State University, Northridge, and a master’s in marketing and public relations from UCLA. He lectured in theater arts from 1980 to 2002 at UCLA, USC, CSU Northridge, CSU Los Angeles, Cypress College and American University, and is the author of So You Wanna Be An Actor… Act Like One.
